In 1988, Tacho Dominguez began working with a scholarship and discipleship program in the Mazahua Valley. This program provided students in junior high with a monthly scholarship, Bible study, discipleship, mentoring, and tutoring so they could be successful in school and also give back to their churches and communities. At that time, higher education was only provided in the larger cities. There were no school buses so in order to finish high school the students would have to uproot themselves and move to the closest city. In 1993, land was bought outside the city of Atlacomulco and in 1995, construction began on the student dormitories. Today, MVM is a resource and retreat center for local churches, pastors, and lay leaders.
